Kremlin Says Russia Supports Türkiye's Idea to Create Platform to Resolve Ukraine Conflict

JAKARTA - Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow agrees with the statement of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, regarding the need to create a platform to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.

"You know, [Russian] President Putin is a strong supporter of diplomatic efforts aimed at finding a solution to the Ukrainian conflict. We have never, of course, rejected talks," Peskov said, as reported by TASS on July 8.

"On the contrary, we have supported the idea of talks involving all interested parties. Currently, there is no such platform, and we can agree with Foreign Minister Fidan on that," the Kremlin spokesman continued.

Foreign Minister Fidan took part in a meeting of BRICS+ foreign ministers in the city of Nizhny Novgorod, as part of his visit to Russia in June.

He also held talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, and Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Sergey Shoigu. According to sources, the two sides discussed the Ukrainian settlement, as well as the situation in the Gaza Strip and Syria.

Meanwhile, while speaking with his colleagues from Poland and Romania, Foreign Minister Fidan said that resolving the Ukraine conflict through diplomatic negotiations should not be ruled out.

"We recommend that negotiations be given priority in all conflicts and wars. The diplomatic option should not be pushed into the background," said Foreign Minister Fidan.
