Weather Friday 5 July, Heavy Rain Is Expected To Happen In Indonesian Cities

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning in the form of potential light, moderate to heavy rain which can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in various major cities in Indonesia on Friday, July 5, 2024. Quoted on the official website of BMKG in Jakarta, cyclonic circulation was observed around the Kalimantan Strait which formed an elongated convergence area from South Kalimantan to West Kalimantan, from the Java Sea to South Sumatra, from Central Java to Banten Java, from Southeast Sulawesi to Central Sulawesi, from Papua Mountains to Papua. It predicts that several major cities will potentially experience moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds, namely Medan, Padang, Padang, Tanjung Pinang, Pangkal Pinang, Bandar Lampung, Bandung, Serang, Palangkaraya, Manado, Palu, and Ambon. BMKG predicts several other major cities will experience light to moderate rain, namely Bengkulu, Semarang, Mataram, Pontianak, Banjarmasin, Samarinda, Makassar, Kendari, Manokwari, and Jayapura. Several major cities are predicted to experience cloudy conditions today, including Banda Aceh, Palembang, Surabaya, Kupang, Denpasar, Tanjung Selor, and Mamuju. In particular, BMKG predicts that the entire region will experience rain weather conditions ranging from moderate to heavy by being accompanied by lightning during the day.

At night, the entire DKI area experienced cloudy conditions to thunderstorms in East Jakarta and the Thousand Islands.

For the forecast for sea wave heights in the territory of Indonesia, BMKG predicts that it will generally be in the range of 0.5 to 2.5 m.

BMKG also appealed to be aware of the potential for tidal flooding in coastal areas of North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau Islands, Banten, East Java, Jakarta, and East Nusa Tenggara.
