Lanang, New Name Candidate For Serda Aprilia Manganang From The Wife Of Army Chief Of Staff Andika Perkasa

JAKARTA - The wife of the Chief of Staff of the Army (KSAD) General Andika Perkasa, who is also the General Chairperson of Persit Kartika Chandra Kirana, Hetty Andika Perkasa, gave a candidate name for Serda Aprilia Manganang.

Through a video on the TNI AD YouTube account, Hetty gave a name to Manganang, who is now a TNI soldier. This name was given after last week, the former volleyball athlete was declared a man after being diagnosed with hypospadias.

"I want to give a name to manganang, if you want to. Want a name?" Hetty asked Manganang as quoted from the video.

"Ready," answered Manganang.

Hetty then mentioned the word 'Lanang' for the candidate's name given to the former athlete. In Javanese, Lanang means man.

"I give his name with a prayer. So I give the name Manganang, 'Lanang'. 'Lanang' is a man in Javanese. I hope with the name 'Lanang' Manganang becomes a real man," he said, which Manganang greeted enthusiastically.

Hetty continued, she had left a message to her husband, namely the Army Chief of Staff, General Andika Perkasa, to educate Manganang to be a man to be proud of. He also said that choosing a name for Manganang, who used to live as a woman due to his disorder, was not easy.

"Choosing this name is not easy, because this is my prayer, praying for you to become a real man. A real man is according to God's nature for you, because you were born as a man. My father and I want to help you," he said.

As previously reported, Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) Andika Perkasa confirmed that Aprilia Manganang was a man from birth. This was done after a series of medical examinations.

"There is a male reproductive system in hypospadias. This happens quite often. So, it is even close to second place among the number of baby boys," General Andika Perkasa told reporters, Tuesday, March 9.

According to Andika, the results of the medical examination did not show a woman. Then, Aprila Manganang's internal organs also did not lead to women.

"Hormonal examination is also like that, the hormone testosterone is also measured so factually and scientifically we believe Sergeant Manganang has more male hormonal categories," said Andika.

Likewise with the results of radiological examinations. "The radiological examination also revealed the same thing," said Andika.

This medical examination was initially carried out at Wolter Mongisidi Hospital, Manado, North Sulawesi on February 3. But the limitations of the hospital made the Indonesian Army decide to bring Aprilia Manganang to Jakarta.

"I consulted to offer what we can help for him. Sgt. Manganang apparently welcomed him with great excitement, apparently this is what I have been waiting for so I presented the complete RSPAD team, we will examine it completely at the Army Hospital using the health facilities we have," said the Army Chief of Staff.

Aprilia Manganang was born in North Sulawesi, April 27, 1992. Manganang started playing volleyball when she was in junior high school and played basketball during high school.

However, he was more interested in playing volleyball. His career began when he joined the Alco Bandung team in 2011. Manganang then moved to BNI46 and Manokwari Valeria.

Furthermore, Aprilia joined Jakarta Elektrik PLN and successfully won the Pertamina Proliga title for two consecutive seasons, namely in 2015 and 2016.

Aprilia's gender status was questioned when she joined the Indonesian Volleyball League in 2011 and 2013 because of her stout posture and strong strength. While on the international stage, the coach of the Philippines volleyball national team had a chance to protest against Aprilia's gender at the 2015 SEA Games.
