JAKARTA - Qatar Airways managed to become the best airline in the world, after beating last year's best airline, Singapore Airlines, in the 2024 Skytrax version of the aviation industry award.
This year's success is the eighth title for Qatar Airways in 25 years of the history of this prestigious award, in recognition of the quality of service offered to passengers with
"This is an extraordinary achievement for Qatar Airways to win the World's Best Airlines title in 2024, the eighth time they have won," said Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted during an award ceremony attended by airline executives and cabin crew at a royal home near Heathrow Airport, London, England., reported CNN June 24.
"We congratulate Qatar Airways on this success which should be a source of great pride and satisfaction for airline management and staff," he continued.
The Middle Eastern airline has built a strong reputation over the past decade, helping Hamad Qatar International Airport, which won awards to establish itself as a global aviation hub to compete with its neighbors, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Qatar Airways is estimated to have around 230 aircraft, consisting of about 10 A380 superjumbo aircraft, Boeing 777-300ER, Boeing 787-8 and 787-9, Airbus A350-900 and A350-1000, plus various jets with smaller capacities.
"This is a proud moment for Qatar Airways and it is an honor for me to share this award with my hard work colleagues," said Badr airline CEO Mohammed Al-Meer in a statement released by Skytrax.
"This award is a testament to our relentless dedication to providing unmatched service and innovation. We look forward to achieving more wins in the future," he added.
UK-based Skytrax said the votes collected from surveys of more than 21 million subscribers from 100 countries (about 350 airlines) this year were the tightest competition since the award began in 1999, requiring a recount.
A narrow loss to Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines is in second place. Completing the top 10 list is the Emirates Dubai in third place, followed in succession by ANA All Nippon Airways Japan, Cathay Pacific Hong Kong, Japan Airlines, Turkish Airlines, EVA Air Taiwan, Air France and Swiss International Airlines.

"No other company crossed my mind in achieving such a successive victory, and we are very proud of that," he said in a statement.
"We dedicate this award to all of our Allstars who work tirelessly to make today happen, and also to everyone who remains loyal to us through the ups and downs experienced by AirAsia," he continued.
