Ministry Of Agriculture Develops Dairy Goat Livestock To Increase Indonesia's Milk Production

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) continues to strive to increase national milk production, one of which is developing dairy goat farming businesses in the community.

Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman, in Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), Saturday, June 29, stated that dairy goats are alternative dairy livestock that are suitable to be developed and widely accepted in the community.

Kambing perah as a milk producer who has the advantages of full nutritional content that can improve people's health and intelligence.

"The dairy goat is liked by farmers, because it is relatively easy and fast to produce," said Minister of Agriculture Amran when visiting Bumi Nararya Farm (BNF) in Sleman, DIY, as reported by Antara.

Bhumi Nararya Farm (BNF) is one of the largest dairy goat farms in Indonesia located at the foot of Mount Merapi, precisely in Kemirikebo Hamlet, Kalurahan Girikerto, Sleman, DIY.

BNF currently has a population of 706 heads, consisting of 628 female goats and 78 male goats.

This duplication is in other regions. This is our effort to suppress milk imports so that we can self-sufficiency. We appreciate the performance of Didik (the owner of BNF) and members who have developed dairy goat farms," he also said.

According to BPS data, the current goat population in Indonesia is 18.5 million with a broiler goat composition of 15.2 million and a dairy goat of 3.3 million.

Central Java and East Java are the provinces with the largest goat population. Both contributed about 20 percent of the total goat population in Indonesia.

Currently, observations in the field show that demand for goat milk is quite high, especially from people living in urban areas. This is because goat milk has many health benefits and is good for the prevention and treatment of diabetes.

Goats and sheep also have an important role in Indonesian culinary delights, such as goat satay and goat soto, which are part of culinary cultivation and traditions.

We really appreciate the dedication and hard work that has been given to increase productivity and quality of livestock products. This hard work not only builds economic sustainability, but also contributes to meeting national food needs," said Minister of Agriculture Amran.
