Medan District Court Sentences 13 Kg Of Shabu Dealers To Life In Prison

The panel of judges at the Medan District Court (PN), North Sumatra, sentenced Suparman (49) to life imprisonment, a defendant courier of 13 kilograms of methamphetamine. "The defendant Suparman was sentenced to life imprisonment," said Chief Judge Muhammad Kasim reading the verdict in the Cakra V courtroom, Medan District Court, Thursday reported by ANTARA, June 27.

The judge believes that the defendant's actions are residents of Fishermen Indah Village, Medan Labuhan, Medan City were proven to have violated Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

The defendant Suparman's actions were burdensome because he did not support the government's program in eradicating drugs.

"Meanwhile, no mitigating factors were found," said Judge Kasim.

The panel of judges also gave the Belawan Prosecutor's seven-day thinking time, both the defendant's legal adviser and the Public Prosecutor (JPU).

"Received or appealed to the verdict," said Chief Judge Muhammad Kasim.

The verdict was lighter than the demands of the Prosecutor's Office of Belawan Daniel Surya Partogi, because previously charged the defendant Suparman with the death penalty.

Public Prosecutor Daniel in the indictment admitted that this case occurred in Belawan, Thursday, December 14, 2023, when a man named Rasyid contacted Suparman to pick up 13 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine into the waters of the Indonesian border 'Malaysia along with three of his orders.

The defendant Suparman and the three people ordered by Rasyid departed from the coast in the Fisherman Indah Village to follow the coordinates of the methamphetamine pick-up.

Until the defendant met a yellow and Malaysian-flagged motorboat manned by three men in the evening.

After receiving 13 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, Suparman and his entourage returned to Belawan waters.

Then the defendant contacted his wife using a cell phone to pick them up at the Ujung Tanjung Coast, Bagan Deli Village, Medan Belawan, Medan City.

However, on his way home, the defendant Suparman and his wife were dismissed by the North Sumatra Police Narcotics Directorate Team.

During the search, officers from the North Sumatra Police Narcotics Directorate found evidence of 13 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and arrested the defendant Suparman.
