Exclusive, Nesia Weroza's Spirit of Pioneering Acting Path with Donny Alamsyah
JAKARTA - New comer celebrity, Nesia Weroza is trusted to play in the latest film produced by MVP Pictures entitled Sengkolo Malam Satu Suro where she plays Nanda who is the younger sister of Ibrahim, played by Donny Alamsyah. In an exclusive interview with VOI, Nesia tried to tell about Nanda's character in this film.
Nesia explained that many things had to be changed to actually play Nanda, who has a character that is very different from her real self. Starting from the way she talks, walks, to the way she expresses her feelings.
“So it's quite a short time to become a Nanda. Because we are indeed being chased by a predetermined time for filming. So we read it for about a week or so. And there are workshops too, so we really work from morning to evening, morning to evening. And Nanda's character really seems like she has to be able to do it," said Nesia Weroza at the VOI office, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, June 5.
"Well, in the end, I'm actually a tomboy, it's really a complete 180 degree turn, very far away. And she speaks like that, actually. So, if all my friends see me, Nanda won't be there talking like this. Nanda's speaking will be more tone down, then she will also be softer, her grammar will also be different, because she is also Javanese, and the way she walks will also be different. Her body movements, the way she worries, the way she is sad, the way she is according to Nesia are all different," she added.
At first, Nesia was doubted by the director of this film, Hanny R. Saputra, when she first appeared at the casting because of the very visible character differences between Nanda and Nesia Weroza's characters.
Because of this, Nesia finally took the initiative to buy a robe which is one of Nanda's trademarks in this film in order to be able to deepen her character.
"So there was a time when we were going to do a workshop and we finished reading, because I was wearing clothes like jeans, then oversized clothes, and then I was told to wear a hijab. I'm still walking like a man, I am still walking like that, so he said, 'oh, you can't do it', to the point where I said, 'I can't walk like that, my style isn't like that'," she added.
“Finally I had the initiative, I bought a robe. Buy it the same day, gojek the same day, search for it on Shopee. Finally I looked ridiculed, changed clothes, when I changed clothes, another workshop, how I walk is changed, way of speaking changed, that same day Mr. Hani immediately said, 'okay, you can do it'. So it's really short, concise and clear," added Nesia.
First time as the main character in a horror genre film, the owner of the real name Nesia Weroza Puspa experienced difficulties, namely when playing, her emotions had to go up and down in a short time.
No wonder Nesia said that it took her 3 hours and 19 takes to really get the right expression for the story in this film.
"So Nanda's character is very unstable, because I have to maintain my energy, which is why building new feelings is difficult, right? So there were actually a lot of the most difficult scenes, the first was the one in the grave, the other one was monologuing alone in the grave, another one was crying, the one scene that I realized that I didn't want to was when Nanda was crying and only had tears in her eyes," she explained.
"He doesn't want me to look like having a monologue, right, like in 'hopefully you'll always be in heaven', like this, like that, for example. It's like a dialogue, I have to convey my feelings like I'm talking with someone, but I also have to express my thoughts, Because Nanda also couldn't confide and talk to Ibrahim, there were mixed feelings, bla bla bla, so when that feeling emerged, it took up to 19 takes," she added.
Suddenly Casting for Acting
Nesia Weroza has only been working as an actress for two years. Previously, she moved to Jakarta to continue her career as a notary. Out of nowhere, she suddenly received an offer to take part in a casting, having previously asked permission from her extended family.
"So before entering the world of entertainment, actually entering the world of entertainment was very sudden, like, ah, you can do that, so the story is that I went to college, I studied Bachelor of Laws, then I studied again, I took a lawyer at UNPAD, my Bachelor's degree was at UNSRI, Sriwijaya, Palembang, lawyer at UNPAD, then took a master's degree in notary at UGM. So it's a coincidence that I actually moved to Jakarta to continue my notary career, because notaries have to do internships, have to take more exams, there are so many stages," she said.
"Well, when I had only been in Jakarta for a month, suddenly someone sent me a DM on Instagram, asking me to join the casting, I also happened to know them at that time, I knew the person, I wanted to try it, but first I asked permission from my family, my brother. Coincidentally, at that time I got permission, they said just try it, if you really want it, just try it," said Nesia Weroza.
Unexpectedly, her career in acting eventually developed more than her education as a notary. Seeing this finally made Nesia think about continuing her newly built career while continuing her notary education.
"Well, as soon as the casting started, suddenly it immediately locked, so it was exactly one month, March, moved to Jakarta, April was already filming, April was already filming, May was finished, then Eid was at that time, because in 2022, if I'm not mistaken, Eid, after that filming again, Multivision, Jin Dan Jun, after Jin Dan Jun filmed again, so it doesn't stop, non-stop," she added.
"Because right now it's in the process of notary work, so I'm also doing an internship, but the internship is also freelance, so it seems like I can still go into the world of entertainment too, because I'm curious about the world of entertainment, so the focus is here first, on entertainment first, that's all. If the notary keeps going, it will never be left behind, because that's a business, you know, it's been working for years," explained Nesia Weroza.
Even so, becoming an actress turned out to have been the dream of this woman from Palembang, where she had participated in modeling and singing since childhood, but because of her parents' demands, she finally put her education first.
"A notary is an independent state official, right? Rather than a state official in a government agency, I prefer to be an independent state official, coincidentally the fortune is there, and that's what made me want to go into the world of entertainment, because in fact that's my aspirations since a kid. I want to enter the world of entertainment," said Nesia Weroza.
"Because I used to like singing, I liked modeling, I was a cover girl for the first time, when I was in high school, I wanted to join the rich kids, actually I wanted to build for the world of entertainment too, just because of my parents' demands, I was told to do education, in the end I chose education, like that," she continued.
It was not an easy matter for Nesia, who went from being an ordinary girl to becoming an actress in a short time. She said that initially she needed to make some adjustments, especially in terms of socializing with other people.
"There are (challenges), from the socialization, so actually the career that I am running in and my career in the entertainment world are very different, one is like this, the other is like that, so it's the same, sometimes you turn right, sometimes you turn left, you know, what's different is the socialization," she said.
"Well, when you enter the world of entertainment, the socialization is different, I feel like the socialization goes on as time goes by, you know, what are you talking about today, what will you talk about tomorrow, it's different again, so it's not just about educational life, so the point is very different," she stressed.
"And I was also surprised, I had to adapt again, previously I couldn't say I do, but now, thank God, I can, because I'm from overseas, and those who were previously confused about how to socialize with people like that, also got advice from friends, other friends, finally I can do that," added Nesia Weroza, closing the interview with VOI.
