Jakarta's Air Quality Today Is Bad, Residents Are Asked To Wear Masks

JAKARTA - The air quality of the City of Jakarta was recorded as unhealthy on Monday, June 23, and residents were advised to wear masks when doing outdoor activities, as stated on the IQAir page which was updated at 05.00 WIB.

IQAir noted that Jakarta's air quality is at 158 points with a concentration level of PM 2.5 pollutants of 65 micrograms per cubic meter or 13 times higher the annual air quality guide value of the World Health Organization (WHO).

PM 2.5 is a 2.5 smaller particle (micrometer) found in the air including dust, smoke and jelaga. This particle exposure in the long term is associated with early death, especially in people who have chronic heart or lung disease.

Health recommendations given the current air quality in addition to wearing masks, also reduce outdoor activity, close windows in order to avoid dirty outside air, and turn on air filters.

Jakarta's air quality when compared to nine other regions in Indonesia ranks second worst after South Tangerang, Banten (180).

Previously, Jakarta's air quality was recorded in a similar condition on Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22 with 156 and 162 points, respectively.

Knowing this, the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono instructed the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to coordinate with the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to implement weather modification technology (TMC) in Jakarta.

TMC was previously carried out in mid-2023 to deal with air pollution in Jakarta during the dry season and the end of 2022, to overcome the potential for extreme weather that occurs.
