Beware Of Potential High Waves Of Up To 2.5 Meters In The Malacca Strait

JAKARTA - All parties are asked to be aware of the potential for high waves of 1.25 to 2.5 meters that can occur in the northern part of the Malacca Strait.

"The same conditions can also occur in the waters north of Sabang, the western waters of Aceh, to the Mentawai Islands, the western Indian Ocean of Aceh to Enggano Island," said Maritime Meteorological Station forecaster Belawan Rizki Fadhillah quoting Antara.

Regarding the high waves, he said, to fishing boats, barges, ferries, and other large ships such as cargo ships and cruise ships, to pay attention to the high risk of shipping safety.

"People who live and work on the coast around areas that have the opportunity for high waves, are also expected to remain vigilant," he said.

He said the wind pattern in northern Indonesia generally moves from the southwest - west with wind speeds ranging from 8 - 25 knots.

Meanwhile, in the southern part of Indonesia, it generally moves from east - southeast with wind speeds ranging from 8 - 25 knots. The highest wind speed was observed in the North Natuna Sea, South Banda Sea, and Arafuru Sea.
