KPU Suggest Pilkada 2024 On November 11th, PPP Lagislator Asked To Be Resigned: Cooling Down, Preparation For Christmas

JAKARTA - Member of the PPP DPR RI, Nurhayati Monoarfa admitted that her party was unable to participate in the implementation of the 2024 simultaneous regional election voting day on 11 November. This date is proposed by the General Election Commission (KPU).

"Concurrent regional elections in 2024 should not be held in November 2024. If it is held in November 2024, we cannot fulfill the need for an adequate time gap," Nurhayati said in her statement, Tuesday, March 16.

The government and the DPR agreed to carry out elections (presidential and legislative elections) and regional head elections (pilkada) in the same year, namely 2024.

Supposedly, according to Nurhayati, there should be a more relaxed time gap from the inauguration of members of the DPR RI, DPD RI, and DPRD at provincial, regency / city levels, the inauguration of the president and vice president, to the inauguration of the new cabinet ministers.

Therefore, this member of Commission II of the DPR RI suggested that the 2024 Concurrent Pilkada be held on December 11, 2024.

"We propose that the voting for the 2024 Concurrent Pilkada will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. Thus, there is still 2 weeks' time to cool down and prepare and condition the Christmas security, December 25, 2024," he said.

Previously, the KPU presented simulations on the stages of the implementation of the general elections (elections) for the president, DPR, DPD and DPRD as well as regional head elections (pilkada) which will be held simultaneously in 2024.

The KPU divides the timing of the election and regional elections in two. Then, there are two dates prepared by the KPU in the implementation of the election with voting day, namely February 14 or March 6.

Acting Chairman of the Indonesian KPU, Ilham Saputra, said that the KPU's consideration was to decide on two election options with the presidential and legislative elections on February 14 and March 6 by looking at the weather conditions.

Then, it's time for the local elections. The KPU simulated the implementation of the election day for the pilkada on November 13, 2024. This is in accordance with Law Number 1 of 2015 as amended by Law Number 6 of 2020.

Ilham explained, the eight to nine month pause from the implementation of elections and regional head elections in 2024 was made because political parties need sufficient time to prepare the conditions for nominating regional heads.

"The election stages must be completed when the pilkada candidacy begins, because the election results become a reference for political parties in (conducting) their nomination methods such as the number of seats (in parliament). So, the reference is still to use the 2024 election results," Ilham explained.
