Euro 2024: Germany Confirms To Fall Phase After Beating Hungary 2-0
JAKARTA - Germany won their second Group A match against Hungary with a score of 2-0 at MHPArena on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. Two goals from Der Panzer were scored by Jamal Musiala (22') and Ilkay Guendogan (67').
Germany appeared dominant. They totaled 70 percent possession of the ball and managed to release 19 shots, seven of which were on target.
In fact, Germany almost conceded first when the game had only been running for a minute. Roland Sallai managed to snatch the ball from the opponent's defender's fault. However, Manuel Neuer is still ready to clear the ball.
In the 11th minute, it was Germany's turn to almost open the scoring. Antonio Rudiger's long pass led right to Kai Havertz who managed to outwit Hungarian defenders. However, the finish is not yet perfect and can still be pushed over by goalkeepers.
Germany's goal range finally opened up in the 22nd minute. Guendogan took advantage of the Hungarian defender's mistake and created chaos.
He immediately sent a pass in a difficult situation to Musiala in the mouth of the goal. Without control, Musiala immediately threw the ball into an empty net.
Four minutes later, Hungary had a golden opportunity to equalize. However, Roland Varga's free kick was still accessible to Neuer even though he had to struggle.
In the first half, Musiala almost scored his second goal. A shot from close range only lodged in the outside side net.
Disaster actually came to Germany in injury time in the first half. Willi Orban scored a goal after heading home the ball from Sallai's kick. However, Orban's position was offside and the goal was disallowed.
Entering the second half, Germany had the opportunity to keep the lead in the 55th minute. However, goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi was still able to block Toni Kroos' volley.
Hungary did not remain silent. Several times they had a chance to find an equalizer goal. One of them was through Sallai in the 60th minute, but his header was still slightly soaring.
Seven minutes after Hungary's chances, Germany moved further away. Guendogan, who has contributed assists for the first goal, was on the scoreboard this time.
He completed Maximilian Mittelstadt's cut-back from the left side of the attack.
Winning two goals makes Germany more comfortable and does not relax the pressure. The third goal was almost created in the 69th minute.
Starting from a counter-attack, Kroos passed a short ball to Joshua Kimmich to break through the penalty box. Unfortunately, his shot was still wide.
Gulacsi's appearance is a factor for Germany not being able to record additional goals. Leroy Sane's chances in the 75th minute failed to produce points.
Neuer also performed well under Germany's bar, making it difficult for Hungary to find goals to reduce the gap.
No additional goals were created. The score of 2-0 for Germany lasted until it was over.
The victory ensured that Der Panzer stepped into the knockout stages of Euro 2024 with two perfect results from two matches.
Not only that, Germany listed itself as the fifth team to win the first two matches as hosts of the Euros. Previously, a similar record was made in Spain (1964), France (1984), the Netherlands (2000), and France (2016).
