DPR: Lack Of Education Costs Is Not A Problem If Regulated By The Ministry Of Education And Culture

JAKARTA - Member of Commission X DPR RI Muhamad Nur Purnamasidi assessed that Indonesia will not experience a problem of underprivileged education costs if the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) is also the determinant of the use of education budgets. "I am sure that the Ministry of Education and Culture as a person who understands the world of education, has calculated the cost of education, is a decisive part when the money from the box is divided, I am sure we don't lack money to finance education," said Nur in a Working Committee (RDP) Working Committee (Panja) on Education Financing with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday 19 June, was confiscated by Antara. As long as the Ministry of Education and Culture is not a determinant of the use of education budgets, he continued, the cost of education in Indonesia will continue to be expensive or burden the community, especially those who are not economically capable. Furthermore, Nur assessed that the solution of education costs could be carried out by optimizing the implementation of Government Regulation (PP) Number 18 of 2022 concerning Education Funding. Article 80 in the PP regulates that the government sets the amount of the education budget of at least 20 percent of the APBN, excluding official education costs.

Next, it was also mentioned that the ministers, ministers who held government affairs in the field of state finance and ministers who held government affairs in the field of national development planning jointly approved the allocation of education budgets.

Previously, it was widely reported that a number of campuses raised large UKT, such as the increase from UKT class four to class five and so on with an average amount of 5-10 10 percent. This has become a polemic until there was a wave of demonstrations by state university students in a number of regions. Commission X DPR RI then followed up on the problem by forming a Education Financing Committee to find out the cause of the UKT increase. Even though the Ministry of Education and Culture has stated canceling the UKT increase, the Education Financing Committee continues to explore the causes of the high cost of education and solutions that can be taken to overcome it.
