Facing Hungary, Xhaka Hopes The Success Of The Infectious Leverkusen To The Swiss National Team
JAKARTA - Midfielder Granit Xhaka has successfully accompanied Leverkusen to win the Bundesliga and German Cup titles this season.
He also hopes that success with the club can "contage" the Swiss national team in the 2024 European Cup in Germany and can present a victory for Switzerland in the Group A match against Hungary on Saturday night at the Cologne Stadium.
"This is a new chapter, a new challenge with the national team then with Leverkusen next season," Xhaka said as reported by AFP, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, June 15.
"Success gave confidence. This is an important challenge this season," said the former Arsenal midfielder.
Hungarian coach Marco Rossi even praised Xhaka as an important figure in the Swiss national team squad for being able to organize attacks from the midfield.
"Positive words from the opposing team coach are a matter of pride. If I am among the best in my position, of course that is also what others say," said Xhaka.

The 31-year-old midfielder also dismissed rumors that there had been a rift between coach Murat Yakin and Swiss players.
"I have had good relations with the coach in the last six to eight months. He came to visit me, we met for dinner and drank a lot of wine," he said.
"We are happy to have a coach who wants to listen to us. We have never had a problem," said Xhaka.
