Supporting Palestinian Independence, Prabowo: Indonesia Is Ready To Play A Role In Ceasefire Efforts In Gaza
JAKARTA - Indonesian Minister of Defense (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed the support of the Indonesian government and people for the independence and sovereignty of Palestine. Prabowo stated that Indonesia is ready to play a role in the immediate ceasefire efforts in Gaza.
This was conveyed by Prabowo at the Gaza Emergency Response Summit (KTT) entitled 'Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza' which was held in Amman, Jordan, Tuesday, June 11.
"The Indonesian government and the Indonesian people once again affirm the strongest support for the independence and sovereignty of Palestine as a real solution to the conflict in Palestine and in Gaza," Prabowo said in a statement quoted on Wednesday, June 12.
Prabowo initially appreciated the steps taken by Jordan, Egypt, and the United Nations (UN) which had initiated the holding of a Summit for Gaza.
Prabowo then highlighted countries that considered themselves a modern and civilized nation, but committed crimes and violations of international humanitarian law. Prabowo called these actions a form of indirect violation of modern law of war. Because, the victims are civilians and civil infrastructure.
"We call on all major countries to use their great influence to enforce international law conventions," Prabowo said.
Prabowo said Indonesia also supports a number of strategic steps towards the creation of peace, including the ceasefire proposal. One of them was proposed by the President of the United States, Joe Biden.
Indonesia, said the President-elect for the 2024-2029 period, is also ready to contribute to all efforts leading to the ceasefire in Gaza and take a role after the ceasefire is implemented.
"Indonesia is ready to contribute to all efforts that could lead to an immediate ceasefire and take part in all stages after the immediate ceasefire," he said.

Prabowo also stated that Indonesia will continue to contribute to realizing a ceasefire and believes that the two-state solution is the final solution to the conflict between the Palestinians of Israel.
"Although we are willing to support and contribute to all these efforts, the final solution to this problem is a two-state solution. Only with a solution of two countries, Palestine and Israel can coexist safely and peacefully, this problem can be solved," Prabowo concluded.
