Gerindra: There Has Been No Talk Of Political Parties On Amendments To The 1945 Constitution

JAKARTA - The daily chairman of the Gerindra Party DPP and Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said that until now there has been no discussion with all political parties in the DPR regarding amendments to the 1945 Constitution (UUD).

"If you say that all political parties have agreed, I have a cross-check that it turns out that political parties have not been spoken to. So, it's just a discourse," Dasco said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, June 7.

Therefore, Dasco emphasized that the proposal was only a discourse and that factions in the DPR had not yet taken a stand against the discourse.

Although he was aware of the discourse on amendments to the 1945 Constitution, he admitted that he did not know exactly what the amendments proposed changes to the presidential election through the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), as has been widely reported recently.

However, if this is true, Dasco feels that such a discourse should not be carried out at times before the regional head elections (pilkada) or the inauguration of the president and vice president as it is today.

"I think these issues or discourses are unnecessary at this time," he said.

Previously, on Thursday (6/6), MPR Chairman Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) was reported to the Honorary Court of the Council (MKD) by a person named Azhari. The report was based on news in online media.

The point reported to the MKD is that Bamsoet is considered to have stated that all factions have approved the amendment to the 1945 Constitution.

However, Bamsoet has clarified his statement about political parties agreeing to amend the 1945 Constitution.

He straightened out that he had never issued a statement saying that all political parties agreed to amend the 1945 Constitution, including not talking about the presidential election again at the MPR.

"I am only talking about the aspiration to review the amendments to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia as a whole. So, once again I emphasize, there is no statement that all political parties have agreed to amend the 1945 Constitution," said Bamsoet in a written statement received in Jakarta, Friday.
