Roger-Vasselin/Siegemund's Unique Journey Wins Mixed Doubles Champion Roland Garros 2024
JAKARTA - Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Laura Siegemund won the Roland Garros or French Open 2024 in the mixed doubles on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
Roger-Vasselin and Siegemund's journey was quite interesting before becoming champions. Initially, Siegemund did not want to play in mixed doubles because they had taken place in the women's singles and doubles. Meanwhile, Roger-Vasselin has already signed up in the men's doubles sector.
However, at the last minute, Roger-Vaselin changed Siegemund's mind. He contacted the German to become his partner in the mixed doubles.
Tit for tat, Laura Siegemund accepted the offer and it turned out that the choice of the two was not wrong.

Roger-Vasselin/Siegemund managed to win in the top match against fourth seed Desirae Krawczyk/Neal Skupski two straight sets with a score of 6-4 and 7-5.
"This is the thing that happened in the last minute. I don't want to play mixed here because I also play in singles and doubles."
"Then Edouard called me and sent a message to me two hours before the deadline," Siegemund said on Roland Garros' official website.
"I always wanted to play with him and somehow it always didn't work. Then I thought, 'I can't say no'".
"He was finally free, he wanted to play. So, I think it was a good decision for me to register."
"Thank you so much for playing with me. I enjoyed a few mixtures before, but it's special. I really enjoyed it and got support from the fans through him, it was really amazing," said Laura Siegemund again.
A number of positive notes were also made. 40-year-old Roger-Vasselin became the first French player to win the mixed crown of Roland Garros since Nathalie Dechy partnered with Andy Ram (Israel) 17 years ago.
The win was created because Siegmund also performed outstanding in the final which lasted one hour 40 minutes. This is Siegemund's second mixed doubles title after success at the 2016 US Open with Mate Pavic.
In addition, the trophy is the third in Grand Slam for doubles throughout her career. He won another trophy when he was paired with Vera Zvonareva in the women's doubles at the 2020 US Open.
As for Roger-Vasselin, Roland Garros 2024's mixed doubles trophy is both in doubles at Grand Slam.
Exactly a decade ago, the French player won the Grand Slam in the men's doubles with Julien Benneteau at the 2014 Roland Garros.
The victory was even more special for Roger-Vasselin considering he won the title at home, including in front of his father, Christophe, who watched live.
As is known, Christophe is also a tennis player who used to beat world number one, Jimmyctions, to reach the men's singles semifinal in Roland Garros 1983.
"Obviously it's very special for me to win at home. Very grateful Laura said yes to me two hours before the deadline."
"That's a good story. On the weekend, we got this trophy," said Roger-Vasselin.
"This is the biggest tournament for me. So, having a trophy here 10 years after I won in doubles too here, it's pretty special."
"I really enjoyed the win on that pitch with the audience with us. Yes, that's great. I'll have these memories for at least 10 more years," Roger-Vasselin said again.
