Big Ocean Implements ESG Principles Through Several Programs

JAKARTA - PT Lautan Luas Tbk (LTLS) understands that maintaining a balance between business growth and social responsibility is a key aspect in maintaining the company's sustainability.

"The company contributes to realizing a sustainable life. By instilling the value of sustainability and targets on each side of operating activities to strengthen commitment to responsible business practices, sustainable innovation, and partnerships with various stakeholders," said Corporate Communication & Investor Relations Manager of PT Lautan Luas Tbk, Eurike Hadijaya, in a written statement, Friday, June 7.

The leading and special chemical company in Indonesia has completed the construction of 70 habitable houses, 7 schools, 7 clean water centers, and 7 stalls within three years in Margamulya village, Mauk.

The company continues the program by building 2 Schools using ecoBlocks. The construction of 1 school uses 808 Eco Blocks. This development can reduce up to 6 tons of plastic waste and absorb carbon emissions up to 13 tons. Ecoblocks itself is made from plastic waste recycling. In addition to reducing plastic waste, the Lumbaga also planted mangrove plants in ring area 1 of Lautan Village, covering an area of 1 hectare with a planting distance of 1,2 to 1 meter.

In research conducted by a research team from the US Forest Service Pacific Southwest Research Station, US Forest Service Northern Research Station, Helsinki University, and the International Forestry Research Center found that per hectare of mangroves can store four times larger carbon than in other tropical forests around the world. Approximately 1,200 tons of carbon can be maintained in a 1 hectare of mangrove forest span.

"We choose mangroves because mangroves can withstand marine abrasion and also have the role of living as a place of life for various kinds of marine biota such as small fish to shelter and find food. This is important because most of our villagers are fishermen and with these mangrove plants we believe this plant will guarantee a sustainable life," said Eurike.

Eurike understands the importance of the company having a clear and directed strategy in achieving our sustainability targets. To that end, LTLS ensures that every sustainability target we set is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-limited (SMART) as stated in the 2022-2031 Sustainability Roadmap. With clear target determination, LTLS has a strong framework to direct our efforts and evaluate our progress regularly.

The Luar Ocean has taken significant steps to reduce its contribution to climate change. The company has implemented initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reduce its carbon footprint. This includes incorporating energy efficient technology into its operations, actively monitoring greenhouse gas emissions from energy consumption, reporting waste management and treatment, water and waste management, to track its progress in reducing environmental impacts.

Furthermore, the study of the use of energy from solar panels to run the production engine. As well as the use of operational vehicles is carried out systematically to optimize their use as needed.

In addition, LTLS through its subsidiaries develops water treatment solutions for industrial and household needs known as the Pureve brand.

"Started in 2019, we have been committed to presenting solutions for raw water treatment into clean water, drinking water, water processing and wastewater treatment in order to meet quality standards," explained Eurike.
