46 Lost Houses Erged By Abrasion Of The Konaweha River, Southeast Sulawesi

A total of 46 houses were lost due to abrasion due to the increase in the water flow of the Konaweha River in Muara Sampara Village, Kapoiala District, Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra).

Muara Sampara Village Head Suherman said this abrasion had occurred for six years from 2019 to 2024. "About 46 houses of residents of Muara Sampara Village were lost due to abrasion," said Suherman, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, June 7.

He explained that the abrasion was caused by several small river flows in the area which were closed by the company's activities that began operating in 2015 so that the river flow did not break and flow at only one point and there was dredging.

In addition, he continued, the abrasion process is now also happening more quickly, especially with the high intensity of rainfall, so that the flow of the Konaweha River is increasing.

"In 2024, there are seven houses that have been lost due to abrasion," he said.

He estimates the loss will reach hundreds of millions of rupiah. One house is estimated to have lost, he said, approximately Rp. 100 million.

He also said that he had lived in the village for decades, but there had never been an abrasion. However, since the entry of companies in Morosi, Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, Muara Sampara Village, has become an abrasion subscription.

Muara Sampara Village has three hamlets inhabited by around 149 families (KK) with a total population of 553 people. If this village is not handled immediately by the government due to abrasion, then this village will remain a memory.

For now, he said, the village government and the community have tried to prevent abrasion by mutual cooperation through the construction of embankments by filling the sand in sacks and arranging it on the banks of rivers affected by abrasion.

"So for the time being we took the initiative to build embankments to prevent abrasion," he said.

The village head of Muara Sampara has tried to contact the Konawe Regency Government (Pemkab) to see firsthand the condition of our village. From this effort, the North Konawe Regent (Pj) responded well by going down twice a week with his officers to see the condition of the residents of Muara Sampara village who were affected by abrasion.

"Then he was promised to build a house worth Rp. 15 million per person affected by abrasion," he said.

It is known that in 2025 a embankment will be built to prevent abrasion due to the flow of the Konaweha River in Muara Sampara Village, Kapoiala District, Konawe Regency.
