Volvo Books Global Sales Of 68,000 Units In May 2024, Europe Donates The Most
JAKARTA - Volvo, an automotive manufacturer from Sweden, reported its global vehicle sales in May. During that period, they managed to sell 68,034 units, an increase of 13 percent compared to last year in the same period.
"I'm happy to see solid growth for another month, which is proof of the power of our brand," said Volvo Cars Chief Commercial Officer and Deputy CEO Bjorn Annwall, on the manufacturer's official website, Thursday, June 6.
Of these, 32,768 units (up 37 percent) of which are electrification vehicles, consisting of EVs and PHEVs. For electric vehicles, Volvo managed to sell 17,064 units, an increase of 58 percent, followed by PHEV with a total of 15,704 units or more than 20 percent from last year.
Meanwhile, sales of pure ICE or mid-hybrid vehicles reached 35,266 units last month or experienced a decline of up to 3 percent.

Europe is still the largest market for Volvo by obtaining sales of 33,252 units in May (up 27 percent). The electrification vehicle segment also increased rapidly to 34 percent or received sales of 22,028 units.
Then, China became another largest market occupied by this Gothenburg, Sweden-based manufacturer. In the bamboo curtain country, Volvo managed to sell 13,934 units, down 1 percent from last year's acquisition in the same period.
Surprisingly, in this market, the ICE or mid-hybrid engine segment managed to dominate with a total of 12,631 units but decreased 2 percent from last year. Meanwhile, electrification contributed 1,303 units or experienced a 10 percent increase.
The largest market occupied by Volvo is the United States (US) with a total sales of 10,153 units, a decrease of 5 percent. Of this number, 6,239 units of them came from ICE and mid-hybrid vehicles, down 19 percent.
Meanwhile, manufacturer-owned electrification products in the US accounted for 3,914 units, an increase of up to 29 percent from before. EV products in this country experienced a decline of up to 78 percent or a total of 297 units, while PHEV sales increased significantly by 3,617 units or more than 113 percent from last year.
During May 2024, the XC60 model managed to become the best-selling product in the global market with a total of 20,507 vehicles that had been sold, followed by XC40 with 13,640 units, and EX30's newest EV with 11,035 units.
