Indonesia Open 2024: Ester Beats Former World Champion In Debut Match
JAKARTA Women's singles badminton player Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo debuted at the Super 1000 BWF Indonesia Open 2024 by defeating former Japanese world champion, Nozomi Okuhara.
Ester locked the win convincingly in two straight games 21-17 and 21-16 with a duration of 43 minutes to qualify for the second round of the tournament at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.
"It's nice to be able to win by implementing the desired strategy," said Ester after the match.

Indonesia Open 2024 is the debut for the runners-up Bahrain International Series 2022 in the BWF tournament level Super 1000.
Previously, Ester only played in the two highest level tournaments, namely the BWF Super 500. The two tournaments in question are the Indonesia Masters and Malaysia Masters 2024.
"Certainly it feels mixed up to be able to appear in the BWF Super 1000 tournament. I feel tense considering my debut against Nozoki Okuhara who is ranked far above me," said Ester.
Ester is the third representative of Indonesia to advance to the second round of the Indonesia Open 2024 tournament.
Before him, two tickets were secured by mixed doubles Adnan Maulana/Nita Violina Marwah and Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja.
