Evaluation Of 2024 Hajj Flights, Ministry Of Transportation: Garuda Is 48 Times Late And Saudi Airlines 6 Times

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation (Ditjen Hubud Kemenhub) noted that there were 48 times of delays in the two airlines serving 2024 Hajj flights.

The delay occurred during the first phase of the departure of the 2024 Hajj Transport in the period 12 to 30 May 2024.

"There have been 48 delays in the two airlines serving Hajj flights, namely Garuda Indonesia with a total of 42 delays, and Saudi Arabia Airlines with a total of six delays," said Director General of Civil Aviation, Maria Kristi Endah Murni in an official statement, Sunday, June 2.

Kristi also claimed to have held a joint meeting with Garuda Indonesia regarding the number of delays in the first phase. He said that the delay occurred due to technical and operational factors.

"For this incident, Garuda Indonesia has mitigated by flying prospective pilgrims using its wide-body aircraft," explained Kristi.

Kristi also asked that the two airlines serving Hajj flights be committed and responsible for providing the best Hajj services and immediately mitigating if there are obstacles in the field.

"Until today, On Time Performance (OTP) from the two airlines has reached 86.99 percent, with details of Garuda Indonesia 78.68 percent and Saudi Arabia Airlines 96.51 percent," he said.

Regarding the departure of prospective pilgrims, Kristi said the Ministry of Transportation recorded that during the period from May 12 to 30 there were 144,961 prospective pilgrims who had been dispatched or 67.1 percent of the total prospective pilgrims this year, namely 216,065 according to data from the Ministry of Religion.

"All prospective pilgrims are divided into 554 Flying Groups (clusters), until May 30 yesterday the percentage of the departing group was 66.6 percent," he said.

On the same occasion, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation Adita Irawati said that her party had held a coordination meeting to evaluate the implementation of this first phase of the Hajj flight.

The coordination meeting was chaired by the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi and attended by all transportation stakeholders and Hajj flight stakeholders such as the Director General of Hajj and Umrah Organization of the Ministry of Religion, along with all relevant stakeholders.

"For this reason, it is necessary to increase supervision and ensure the smooth running of the Hajj flight in 1445 H/2024 AD runs smoothly, safely, safely and comfortably," said Adita.

Furthermore, Adita added, the Ministry of Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation will continue to closely monitor Hajj flights until the return of 2024.

"Our job is to ensure that the safety and security of the pilgrims remains a top priority, so that obstacles in the first phase do not happen again in the second phase," concluded Adita.
