PVMBG: Mount Dempo Alert Status After Eruption
The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation, the Geological Agency (PVMBG) revealed that Mount Dempo Pagaralam, South Sumatra had a level II alert status after the eruption.
The head of the PVMBG Volcano Team, Heruningtyas, said that currently based on the results of visual and instrumental monitoring, Mount Dempo's volcanic activity was still at level II alert after experiencing an eruption.
"As for the eruption incident at 03:50 WIB until 08.00 WIB, no significant seismicity or activity was recorded," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 31.
His party recorded the activity of Mount Dempo for the period May 2024, namely, on May 9, 2024, the crater lake changed color from tosca green to gray and white crater smoke was seen with thin intensity.
On May 12, 2024 at 19.11 WIB, an earthquake was recorded with an amplitude of 30 mm for a duration of 45 seconds. Visuals were not observed.
Furthermore, May 15, 2024, the crater lake changed color from gray to to dark green. Then on May 17, 2024, the crater lake changed color again from tosca green to gray.

Then on 27 May 2024 at 04.06 WIB, an earthquake erupted with visuals in the form of smoke emission above a white to gray crater lake with a maximum height of 500 meters above the crater lake and eruption material reaching a maximum distance of 300 meters from the crater center.
Next May 31 at 03.58 WIB was recorded by an eruption earthquake with visuals in the form of white to gray smoke emissions with a maximum height of 200 meters above the crater lake.
He appealed to the public, visitors/tourists not to approach and spend the night (camping) at the crater activity center of Marapi-Gungung Dempo within a radius of 1 km, as well as the direction of the crater opening as far as 2 km to the northern sector, considering that the crater is the center of eruptions and volcanic gases that can be dangerous for life.
"The people around Mount Dempo are advised to remain calm, carry out activities as usual, not to be provoked by rumors about the eruption of Mount Dempo," he said.
