Supreme Court Decision Limits After 30 Years Regional Head, Gibran: Young People Have Opportunities
The elected vice president (wapres) Gibran Rakabuming Raka said that all young people have the same opportunity to become regional heads following the decision of the Supreme Court (MA) to grant changes to the age limit of regional heads.
"There is (an opportunity for young people), wide open for all," said Girban, Thursday, May 30.
Meanwhile, when asked whether the decision also illustrated the steps of his youngest younger brother, Kaesang Pangarep, to run for the 2024 Regional Head Election (Pilkada), Gibran was reluctant to respond. He also asked the media crew to directly ask the person concerned.
"Ask Kaesang, yes, ask PSI friends," he said.
The mayor of Solo also gave the same answer when asked whether Kaesang would run in the 2024 Pilkada and whether to run in the Jakarta or East Java gubernatorial election. "The decision is in Kaesang, yes, to run or not. Ask directly to Kaesang," he said.
As previously reported, the Supreme Court on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, decided to grant a request for a judicial review related to the General Election Commission (PKPU) Regulation Number 9 of 2020 concerning the Candidacy for the Election of Governors and Deputy Governors, Regents and Deputy Regents, and/or Mayors and Deputy Mayors regarding the minimum age limit. This application was submitted by the Chairman of the Indonesian Revised Guard Party (Garuda), Ahmad Ridha Sabana.
In its decision, the Supreme Court ordered the General Election Commission (KPU) as the respondent / defendant to revoke the provisions of Article 4 paragraph (1) letter d of PKPU Number 9/2020. Thus, the requirements for the age of candidates for governor and deputy governor are at least 30 years old, while the age of candidates for mayor and deputy mayor or regent or deputy regent candidates is at least 25 years old, starting from the inauguration of the elected candidate pair, not the determination of the candidate pair.
