Exclusive, Ashira Zamita Enjoys the Role of Singer and Songwriter

JAKARTA - Starting her journey in the entertainment industry as a child actress and singer, Ashira Zamita has consistently experienced the world of music and acting for the past six years. Specifically for her career in the world of music, the 22 year old virgin has released two singles this year, "Si Perkasa" and "Raja Dan Ratu".

Based on stories obtained from her parents, Ashira said she began showing interest and talent in music from the age of two. Her parents supported her, Ashira started taking part in competitions and took several music courses.

"Because I am the type of person who likes to perform. Since I was a kid, I've been talking to my parents about joining the competition. Incidentally, my parents supported this desire, I also took singing and musical instrument lessons," said Ashira Zamita during a recent visit to the VOI office in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta.

Ashira participated in various kinds of competitions and the results were recognized as quite good. She received no less than a hundred trophies, from first place to runner-up, from the competition. In fact, she also took part in a poetry writing competition, which is said to be the beginning of her interest in writing songs.

The two songs mentioned above are Ashira's own creations, of course with the help of several musicians in their composition. "Si Perkasa", which was released earlier this year, was said to be one of the songs that marked his rebranding process as a singer.

"Because I feel that nowadays musicians can have many personalities, and I think it's okay for us to rebrand. Incidentally, in the song Si Perkasa, you could say that I wrote the first page in the style I wanted," said Ashira.

"In terms of music, I said my genre was DTT, In the Middle, so I said yes, my genre is just Ashira. Because as a person I feel really in the middle, not too left and not too right. So Si Perkasa can quite explain how the DDT sounds," she continued.

“Si Perkasa” for Ashira has opened the door to something new. By relying on the strength of the lyrics, this song contains unusual diction and several allusions, but is still easy for listeners to understand.

"Many producers who have worked with me, they say that when I write in Indonesian I have some diction and maybe a delivery that can be said to be not too literal, so there are still figures of speech and language that is quite literary, but people still understand it," said the 22-year-old entertainer.

Arranging from the Beginning

This song is also a new experience for Ashira as a songwriter, because she played an active role from the beginning of writing the song until it was finally heard by the public.

"This might be the fun part of making music, I don't know because I haven't found it in acting, because I can really build from scratch, I can transfer my feelings into tunes and lyrics," said Ashira.

“At that time I had time to vent, actually this was about masculinity, why men rarely show their emotions. Luckily, when it was ready, listeners said there were quite a lot of interpretations, so it's universal, it can be used for couples, families and yourself too," she continued.

If "Si Perkasa" is a song that is intended to strengthen by presenting a feminine side, then "Raja dan Ratu" is the opposite, by showing the side of a woman who easily falls in love.

"This song is based on my personal story in 2018, when I met a man, after just five minutes of chatting, it was like 'I'm in love with you'," said Ashira.

Si Perkasa might be suitable for people who are tired of life. But Raja Dan Ratu are for girls who like to fantasizing. I really want to present that, I want to romanticize today's children who easily fall in love," she added.

Writing songs from stories she experienced herself is also important for Ashira. If previously, the songwriting style was based on the experiences felt by many people, this time Ashira wanted to write songs that told the story of herself.

"Maybe because my inspiration is Taylor Swift, NIKI, Tori Kelly and Olivia Rodrigo, they make personal songs. So, okay, I also want people to know about my love life, about what I feel without me having to tell it," she said.

“Because the fact is that there are lots of kids my age who feel like they want to have friends. So, we share the joys and sorrows through the songs I wrote."

For Ashira, the highest achievement as a musician is when listeners share messages and express their emotions through songs. She wants to be known as a singer and songwriter who can have a good impact on many people.

"Actually, this is really cheesy, but I always say that the highest point of my work, whether in music or acting, is that I want to be able to create a good impact on people. And I want to be a representation for people," concluded Ashira Zamita.
