OpenAI Provides ChatGPT Discounts For Non-profit Organizations

JAKARTA - OpenAI will offer a discount on the company's version of the ChatGPT subscription to non-profit organizations. This was announced by the Microsoft-backed company on Thursday, May 30. It aims to increase sales of their artificial intelligence products to the company.

In this program, large non-profit organizations will get a 50% discount for the company-level ChatGPT version. Smaller nonprofit organizations that use the ChatGPT Team will pay $20 (IDR 320 thousand) per month per user, rather than 25 US dollars (IDR 400 thousand) or 30 US dollars (IDR 480 thousand).

When OpenAI released a consumer-focused ChatGPT in November 2022, it had sparked excessive use of artificial intelligence in its daily tasks ranging from writing to coding. Even ChatGPT became the fastest app to get 100 million users.

Recently, the company has lured large organizations to buy their ChatGPT company products, which are planned to be a bigger part of their revenue streams. The company also announced on Thursday a partnership with the International Rescue Committee (IRC).

OpenAI gave $250,000 to the IRC, a New York-based nonprofit that helps those affected by the humanitarian crisis, such as war in Ukraine.

The funds will be used to develop educational chatbots built with OpenAI technology to help educators in crisis zones. Chatbots called aprindIA, are currently being tested in places such as Bangladesh and Nigeria.

"A total of 224 million school-age and pre-school children are affected by the crisis globally... in conflict and crisis management, teachers lack resources to support children facing unique challenges," the IRC said in a statement.

The IRC says educators will be able to use administrative to create interactive and personal teaching content that can be adapted to different humanitarian contexts.

To expand its reach globally, the IRC plans to make chatbots available on low-tech and in existing chat products such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger in several languages.
