Pertamina Hulu Rokan Plays A Big Role In Moving Local Economy

JAKARTA - As the largest oil and gas producer in the country, the existence of PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) as the manager of the Rokan Block, not only maintains national energy security. In addition, it also plays an important role in encouraging and driving the local economy. This was conveyed by a business economic observer at the University of Riau, Dahlan Tampubolon.

"The role of PHR is very large for the Riau economy," said Dahlan, quoted on Thursday, May 30.

Regarding the Participation Interest (PI) of 10 percent, for example, Dahlan confirmed that PHR had submitted it to the Riau Provincial Government through PT Riau Petrolium Rokan (RPR) as a Regional Owned Enterprise (BUMD), December 2023.

The submission of 10 percent Participation Interest from the PHR, said Dahlan, could increase the capacity of PT Riau Petrolium Rokan (RPR) as a BUMD.

"In the future, PT RPR's activities will certainly provide PAD to Riau Province. Likewise regarding assets, it will also increase because it includes Riau Provincial Government assets," said Dahlan.

Dahlan said that indirectly PHR has indeed contributed to the mobilization of various local economic sectors. For example, such as the emergence of lodging businesses for workers, hotels, food stalls, laundry to the transportation of PHR employees.

Indeed, he continued, the various sectors were not included in the gross regional domestic product (GDP) from the oil and gas sector.

"But if the sector gets a problem, then a lot of people's businesses are also disrupted. There are many other sectors supporting the oil business, and we cannot eliminate that. That's where PHR's role for the Riau economy," said Dahlan.

Because of its indirect influence, continued Dahlan, with the current increase in performance, PHR also maintains Riau's economic growth.

Not only that. Dahlan also mentioned the PHR Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program which is relatively large and varied. Not only for the education sector, but also for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and so on.

"Compared to the previous manager, TJSL PHR is one of the largest. Because the regional PHR that is traversed by the pipeline is also wide to the processing area in Dumai. So wherever the area is traversed by the pipeline, there will be TJSL PHR efforts," explained Dahlan.

Pertamina's success through PHR in managing the Rokan Block has indeed attracted the attention of many parties. Even President Joko Widodo plans to directly review the current conditions in Indonesia's largest oil well. President Jokowi said this was done to check the current condition of the Rokan Block, especially after Indonesia officially managed this oldest oil well on August 8, 2021, from previously managed by the United States oil and gas company, Chevron.
