Sergio Perez's Accident At F1 Monaco 2024 GP Loses A Team Of IDR 48 Billion
JAKARTA The accident experienced by Sergio Perez at Formula 1 (F1) of the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix made the Red Bull team lose as much as 3 million US dollars or equivalent to Rp48 billion.
F1 of the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix was held at the de Monaco Circuit, on Sunday, May 26, 2024. The accident involving Perez occurred only a few moments after the race began.
Red Bull's adviser, Helmut Marko, said that Sergio Perez's accident forced them to spend a very large amount.
"This will cost about two to three million (US dollars) and with a budget limit which of course becomes a big obstacle," Marko told Sky Sport Germany quoted Crash.
Perez was involved in an accident with a duo of Haas drivers, Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg. The three of them then could not continue the race.
The unfortunate incident occurred when Magnussen tried to overtake Perez as they passed Turn 1. However, both collided.
As a result of the collision, Perez's car circled into Nico Hulkenberg's Haas car lane. Among the three, Perez's car suffered the most damage.
"Thank God it ended well, but it was a critical situation. However, I was surprised to see how quickly the officers were dealing with this problem," Marko said.
In addition to the money loss, this bad weekend has reduced Red Bull's points leading over Ferrari in the constructors' standings to just 24 points.
However, the team was lucky because their driver, Perez, who is currently in fifth place in the drivers' standings, was not seriously injured.
