Russia: US Reluctant To Press Israel To Stop Its Actions In Gaza
JAKARTA - The United States was reluctant to pressure Israel to stop military operations in Gaza, but instead covered up the Zionist nation's actions there, Russia's Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Dmitry Polyanskiy said.
"The main problem is that the United States, the only country that can pressure Israel for anything, doesn't want to do it," Polyanskiy said.
"It is quite clear that they are covering up (what is being done) Israel. We consider it based on that, Washington's position is increasingly vulnerable and uncomfortable," he said.
Polyanskiy also mentioned the protests of pro-Palestinian students in Western countries.

"But they (US) are trying to give time (for Israel to continue their operations)," said the Russian diplomat.
Polyanskiy previously said Israel was hampering mediation efforts to release hostages detained by Hamas, the Palestinian resistance group.
He said the lives of the hostages were in danger and the situation was very worrying.
"Israel actually did nothing to solve this problem," he said. This makes the problem worse and complicates the efforts of the mediators.
