BNPB Reports Four Villages In South Sumatra Submerged By Floods Overflowing Enim River

Jakarta - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that four villages in Muara Enim, South Sumatra, were flooded from the overflow of the Enim River.

The flood occurred because the Enim River was unable to stem the discharge of heavy rainwater on Thursday, May 23, 2024.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said the areas affected by the flood included Keban Agung Village (Pasar Tanjung Enim Village), Darmo Village, Lingga Village, and Tegarejo Village (South Tanjung Village) which were each included in the administrative area of Lawang Kidul District, Muara Enim.

The BNPB Pusdalops confirmed that based on the monitoring of the joint officers team in the field, the latest flood conditions had a water level of about 40 centimeters to 2 meters.

"Temporary records there are 6,605 residents affected by the flood," said Abdul Muhari.

The data obtained by the BNPB team is currently at least 1,237 housing units submerged. Then, some road access cannot be crossed by vehicles because it is flooded.

Apart from that, Abdul Muhari ensured that currently the joint team consisted of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the TNI/Polri, and the local Basarnas were on standby at the disaster site.

Dozens of joint team personnel took several rubber boats to evacuate residents who were still trapped in the flood of the Enim River.

The Emergency Handling Command Post has also been established, which is located in the courtyard of the As Sada Mosque, Pasar Tanjung Village, Lawang Kidul District.

With the establishment of the post, it was reported that the joint team had started providing logistical assistance in the form of food and other necessities for the victims.
