M 5.3 Earthquake In Malang, Residents Asked To Be Alert For Susulant Shocks

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 had occurred with the epicenter at sea 127 kilometers southeast of Malang Regency, East Java.

The earthquake occurred on Tuesday, May 21 in the morning at around 02.42 WIB, as quoted from the official BMKG website.

According to the same information, the earthquake was felt around the area with a scale of "modified, mercy, intensity" (MMI) III Karangkates, II Malang, II Jember, II Kepanjen, II Kuta.

The epicenter was at coordinates 9.28 LI, 112.61 East Longitude or 127 kilometers southeast of Malang Regency, with a depth of 10 kilometers.

For this reason, BMKG directs that with the earthquake, the public must be vigilant and careful of aftershocks that may occur.

"This earthquake was felt to be passed on to the public," the official statement said.

The public is advised to remain calm and not be influenced by issues that cannot be justified.
