West Sumatra Police Reveal Cases Of Circulation Of 23 Kilograms Of Marijuana

PADANG - The West Sumatra Regional Police revealed a case of drug trafficking of dried marijuana weighing more than 23 kilograms at the end of last week.

The Head of Public Relations of the West Sumatra Police, Kombes Dwi Sulistyawan, said that the police arrested three suspected perpetrators with the initials MHP (20), FAA (21), and DZ (22) in the marijuana trafficking case.

"Three perpetrators have now been detained and are undergoing legal proceedings for their actions," said Dwi as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 20.

He explained that the suspects were arrested in two different locations, respectively MHP and FAA were arrested in the Pasaman Regency area, while DZ was arrested in the Bukittinggi area.

SuspectsFAA and DZ are residents of Padangpariaman Regency, while MHP is a resident of Pariaman City.

The police charged three suspects under Article 114 paragraph (2) subsidiary Article 111 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

"For the entanglement of this article, the suspects are threatened with a minimum sentence of six years and a maximum of twenty years," said the Directorate of Drug Investigation of the West Sumatra Police, Kombes Nico A. Setiawan.

He said that currently 23,850 grams of dried marijuana have been confiscated by the police as evidence.

Nico said that the disclosure of the case began when his staff conducted an investigation and followed a minibus from the West Sumatra border with North Sumatra on Friday, May 17, 2024.

"We received information that one unit of the minibus was carrying marijuana from Panyabungan (North Sumatra) to West Sumatra," he said.

When they arrived in Sundata, the police immediately ambushed the car and arrested MHP and FAA along with evidence of marijuana stored in sacks.

According to the confessions of the two suspects, the marijuana belonged to DZ who was already waiting in the Bukittinggi area.

"Getting that information, we immediately conducted an investigation into Bukittinggi and arrested the suspect DZ," he explained.

Nico emphasized that his party will continue to uncover drug networks in the local province and arrest the perpetrators indiscriminately.
