Tesla Model Y Now Has A Rival But The Travel Distance Is More Fantastic

JAKARTA - The Tesla Model Y is the world's best-selling electric car in 2023. But now this car has a competitor who cannot be underestimated, namely Nio Onvo L60 from the electric car manufacturer Nio from China.

Nio Onvo L60 has just launched an electric SUV with a coup design which is the first model of Nio's newest sub-brand but the price is more affordable.

Meet ONVO, NIO's new smart electric vehicle brand, launched on the International Day of Facilities with an excited debut! Nio Onvo L60's main advantage lies in its fantastic cruising range. This car is claimed to be able to cover a distance of up to 1,000 kilometers based on China's CLTC test standard. For the record, CLTC standards are known to be more optimistic than the WLTP standards used in Europe, especially when compared to the EPA standards used in the United States.

In comparison, the Tesla Model Y Long Range in China is capable of traveling 688 kilometers. In other words, Nio Onvo L60 on paper offers a distance of 40 percent further. The capacity of the Nio Onvo L60 battery itself has not been officially announced.

Prices and Features

Launching InsideEvs, May 17, to attract Chinese consumer interest, Nio Onvo L60 is offered at a slightly cheaper price than Tesla Model Y. In China, Nio Onvo L60 is priced from 219,900 yuan (around Rp485 million), while Tesla Model Y is priced starting from 249,900 yuan (around Rp545 million).

Interestingly, Nio offers a battery as a service (battery as a service) scheme for Onvo L60. This means that consumers can buy a car without a battery, and then rent it for a monthly fee. With this scheme, the price of Nio Onvo L60 can be reduced to 170,000 yuan (around Rp375 million).

Unfortunately, despite offering its own advantages, the Nio Onvo L60 design at first glance looks similar to the Tesla Model 3 and Y. This can be seen from the shape of the front bumper similar to the Model 3 Performance, to the side lines and the shape of the stern that seems to be directly inspired by the Model Y.

Similarity is also seen in the interior. The shape of the dashboard and the placement of the Nio Onvo L60 infotainment screen also reminded Tesla.

Nio Onvo L60 infotainment screen measuring 17.2 inches with 3K resolution, is the largest ever embedded in a Nio car.

Nio has ambitions to market Nio Onvo L60 globally. Europe is said to be the main target besides China. However, the presence of Nio Onvo L60, or other Nio cars, in the United States (US) is heavy to realize. The recent US government policy that raises import duties for Chinese cars is the main barrier.
