Not Only Exports, April 2024 Imports Also Drop 10.60 Percent
JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that the import value in April 2024 reached 16.06 billion US dollars, or a decrease of 10.60 percent month on month (mom) compared to the previous month which reached 17.96 billion US dollars, an increase of 4.62 percent compared to April 2023.
Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Agency (BPS) Pudji Ismartini said that based on import components, the value of oil and gas imports (oil and gas) in April 2024 reached 2.96 billion US dollars, or a decrease of 11.01 percent (mom) compared to March 2024.
Meanwhile, the value of non-oil and gas imports reached 13.10 billion US dollars, or a decrease of 10.51 percent (mom) compared to March 2024.
"This monthly decrease in imports was due to a decrease in the value of non-oil and gas imports with a decrease of 8.57 percent," said Pudji at a press conference, Wednesday, May 15.
Even so, Pudji conveyed that the import value in April 2024 which reached 16.06 billion US dollars on an annual basis increased by 4.62 percent year on year (yoy).
In addition, Pudji conveyed that the annual import value of oil and gas and non-oil and gas in April 2024 also increased by 0.18 percent and 5.68 percent, respectively.
According to Pudji, the annual increase in non-oil and gas imports was driven by an increase in sugar and sugar development (HS 17) commodities, precious metals and jewelry or gems (HS 71), vehicles and parts (HS 87).
As for the ten main non-oil and gas classes of April 2024, the engine/electric equipment and its parts experienced the largest decline of US$388.9 million or 17.07 percent compared to March 2024. While the biggest increase was sugar and 139.2 million US dollars of sugar or 48.64 percent.
Meanwhile, based on the country that supplied the largest non-oil and gas imports during January 'April 2024 was China 20.77 billion US dollars or 35.22 percent, Japan 4.26 billion US dollars or 7.23 percent and Thailand 3.27 billion US dollars or 5.55 percent.
Meanwhile, non-oil and gas imports from ASEAN were US$10.46 billion or 17.74 percent and the European Union US$3.64 billion or 6.16 percent.
