Meta Will Close Workplace Apps To Focus On AI Development

JAKARTA Meta, the company that oversees Instagram and Facebook, will close the Workplace from Meta application. This application is deliberately closed so that Meta can focus on developing their Artificial Intelligence (AI). According to a Reuters report, Workplace from Meta will be closed in June 2026, but its application can still be accessed until next year. Although this messaging service will end, Meta will continue to use its application as an internal company platform. We stop Workplace (to) focus on AI development and metaverse technology," said a Meta spokesperson on Tuesday, May 14. "We believe (the shift to focus to AI and metaverse) will change the way we work fundamentally." Meta spokesperson also explained that the company will give the company two years to migrate. Alternatively, Workplace application subscribers could switch to products partnered with Meta, namely Workvivo from Zoom. Since its launch in 2016, Workplace from Meta was introduced as a communication application for company purposes. This application continues to be updated with features such as multi-companies groups and employee chat rooms.

However, over the past few years, Meta has started to focus on the AI and metaverse technologies they are developing. After making a sizeable investment, there are concerns that Workplace service costs will soar. Currently, the Workplace service is priced at $4 (Rp64 thousand) for monthly and add-on core packages starting from $2 (Rp32 thousand) per month. Meta spokesperson said that the cost of this subscription package would remain the same until this year's win.
