Google Expands AI Overviews Capability In Search To Answer More Complex Questions

JAKARTA - Over the past 25 years, Google has launched many technological innovations. Now, in Google I/O 2024, Google is expanding AI Overviews to Google Search.

So from now on, AI Overviews will begin rolling out to everyone in the US, and will soon be present in more countries in the future.

"This means that this week, hundreds of millions of users will have access to AI Overviews, and we look forward to reaching more than one billion people by the end of this year," said Liz Reid, Vice President, Head of Google Search.

With the support of the multi-step reasoning capability of Google's special Gemini model, AI Overviews is claimed to be able to help users answer increasingly complex questions.

For example, when you're looking for a new gym, and you want a popular gym among local residents, strategically located, and also offering discounts for new members.

So within seconds, AI Overviews on Google Search will bring up some recommendations for gym venues that are in line with your request, complemented by the offers provided.

In addition to making it easier for users to find something, Google also sees that the link that appears in AI Overviews gets more clicks than if the page appears as a traditional webpage for the query.

Interestingly, thanks to advances in video understanding, Google can now bring visual tracing to new levels, with the ability to ask questions with videos.

Search with videos will soon be available to Search Labs users in English in the US, and Google will expand to more areas over time.
