Luhut Asks The Police To Take Firm Action On Foreigners Involved In Drug Trafficking

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan asked the National Police to take firm action against foreign nationals involved in illicit drug trafficking.

Luhut requested that foreign tourists involved in illicit drug trafficking and online gambling be expelled from Indonesia.

"I say people who mess up in our country foreign tourists who may also be playing drugs or gambling or commotion should not be allowed to enter Indonesia again," he said, Tuesday, May 14.

This has also been coordinated with the Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H Laoly for the handling of foreigners acting in Indonesia.

He considered the presence of people who caused chaos in Indonesia to disrupt the investment climate in Indonesia. Luhut stated that he would hold a special meeting with the National Police Chief, General Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo, to draw up regulations to take action against foreigners involved in drugs.

"People will be comfortable coming to Indonesia if they are comfortable, they are protected from bad actions such as drugs. Next week (I) will make a meeting to arrange a rule so that it can be enforced," said Luhut.

Luhut explained that the National Police has an important role in encouraging economic progress, especially maintaining security so that investors feel safe investing in Indonesia. Therefore, he asked the ranks of the National Police to maintain the investment climate which is currently considered good.

"I see that the role of the National Police is very important, because the role of the Police must maintain how investment in Indonesia is comfortable. Because investment is the key to our future economic progress," he said.

For the next five years, said Luhut, funds for the construction of the capital city of Nusantara, the Trans Sumatra Toll Road and several other national strategic projects can still be financed by the state budget.

"The savings (via) APBN funds for digitalization in almost all lines are gradually underway, I think we can increase our GDP by 1 percent or up to 1 and a half percent in the future with better tax revenues, and that's around Rp500 trillion," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police, Komjen Wahyu Widada, said that the National Police Rakernis who carried the theme "precision Police Investigators support the democratic process and support an exclusive and sustainable economy" is in line with the government's program in increasing investment and Indonesia's economic growth.

"The National Police supports by ensuring the conduciveness of the region, security and public order. From a legal perspective, the National Police enforces the law in the field of investment to support the economy," said Wahyu.
