KPU Affirms Again Elected Candidates Are Not Required To Resign To Participate In The Pilkada
JAKARTA - KPU chairman Hasyim Asy'ari reiterated that candidates for legislative members elected in the 2024 General Election are not obliged to resign if they run for the 2024 simultaneous regional elections.
Hasyim explained that those who resigned were members of the legislature who were in office, not elected candidates in the 2024 General Election. Hasyim previously made a similar statement on Friday (10/5).
"Every time there is a regional election, people who are holding positions as members of the DPR / DPD and the Provincial DPRD and the Regency / City DPRD, if they want to run, or be nominated or registered as regional heads, then the person concerned must resign from his position," said Hasyim as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 13.

Hasyim also explained that the statement was his interpretation of Law Number 10 of 2016 concerning Regional Head Elections and Constitutional Court Decisions (MK) Number 12/PUU-XXII/2024.
"If I read in the Pilkada Law and also in the consideration of the Constitutional Court's decision, those who must resign are members of the DPR, members of the DPD, members of the DPRD, both provincial and district. So, the phrase used is the elected candidate who has been inaugurated, what does that mean? Not the elected candidate, but the member," he explained.
