Claims Driven By Many Parties To Advance In The Independent Gubernatorial Election, Sudirman Said: I Don't Ask Them

JAKARTA - Former Co-Captain Anies-Muhaimin National Winning Team (Timnas AMIN), Sudirman Said, intends to register as a candidate for the Governor of DKI Jakarta for an individual route.

This was marked by the presence of Sudirman Said's support team to the office of the DKI Jakarta General Election Commission to consult on the nomination process in the DKI Jakarta Pilkada, which was an independent route some time ago.

When confirmed, Sudirman Said claimed that many partners had encouraged him to run in the DKI Jakarta gubernatorial election this year.

"I haven't decided whether to advance or not. But it has been a long time since many figures and communities asked me to consider advancing in the 2024 Pilkada," Sudirman Said told reporters, quoted on Sunday, May 12.

Sudirman admitted that the process of fulfilling the requirements to become a cagub of DKI Jakarta in the 2024 Pilkada was not easy. Referring to Article 41 of Law Number 10 of 2016 concerning Regional Head Elections, individual DKI Jakarta cagubs are required to receive voters' support at least 7.5 percent of the total DPT.

Therefore, at least 618,968 DKI Jakarta voters are needed to support what is evidenced by the ID card. However, Sudirman views that his support team is trying to seriously seek support so that the requirement for an independent cagub is met.

"I didn't take care of collecting ID cards. That was an initiative of my friends. It seems impossible for them to go to the KPUD without preparation. I didn't ask them. Whether it was an advanced matter or not was not my personal decision, let it become a public matter. Let the aspirations of the people look for their way," explained Sudirman.

On the other hand, the former Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) claimed that a number of parties also encouraged him to participate in the DKI Pilkada contestation. Although, there is no certainty whether the party in question will carry it.

"If I am needed and deemed eligible, and get adequate support, the best is indeed supported by the Political Party. But we relax, because whether or not to go to the regional election is not my personal agenda, but the public decisions of the supporters," he explained.

The DKI Jakarta KPU revealed that the former Deputy Captain of the Anies-Muhaimin Winning Team, Sudirman Said, ran in the Jakarta gubernatorial election (Pilgub) through an individual route.

"Yesterday afternoon we received a team from Mr. Sudirman Said who will register as a candidate pair for governor and deputy governor from the individual route," said Head of the Technical Division for the Implementation of the DKI KPU Election Dody Wijaya at the DKI Jakarta KPU building, Friday.

Dody explained that Sudirman Said would later partner with the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Market Traders Association (IKAPPI) Abdullah Mansuri.

Sudirman is the third candidate to have consulted after former Deputy Head of the National Cyber Crypto Agency (BSSN) Komjen (Ret.) Dharma Pongrekun Police and former Commissioner of PT Petrokimia Gresik (Persero) Noer Fajrieansyah or Bang Fajrie.

The deadline for submitting the supporting requirements for candidates for governor and deputy governor of the individual route is no later than May 12, 2024, at 23.59 local time.
