KPU Believes Independent Candidates Can Meet Pilkada Support Requirements

JAKARTA - Member of the General Election Commission (KPU) Idham Holik is optimistic that the individual candidate pair will soon meet the requirements for support in the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada in the middle of a limited time.

"For those who will truly become individual parents of the Pilkada, they will prepare everything to be able to meet the requirements stipulated in the Pilkada Law," said Idham as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, May 11.

Based on data from the KPU as of Friday (10/5), there are already two prospective pairs of individual Gorontalo mayors and deputy mayors who have handed over their support.

According to him, one of the factors that causes the lack of potential pairs to submit support requirements is the short time lag between the voting day and the gradual recapitulation process for the 2024 General Election with a schedule for handing over support for candidates for regional heads and deputy regional heads from individual channels.

"Yes, that is one of the factors that is suspected of having many other factors," he said.

The limit for submitting support for prospective individual pairs to the KPU leaves one more day or Sunday (12/5) tomorrow.

Idham also emphasized that his party had maximally socialized and disseminated technical regulations for the submission of support for candidate pairs for regional heads and deputy regional heads as individuals.

He revealed that in the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada, around 122 individual candidate pairs consisting of 2 prospective candidate pairs for governor election, 100 prospective pairs for regent elections and 20 prospective pairs for mayor election who have not yet submitted their support.

Even so, he continued, they are in the process of uploading (uploading) support data to the Candidate Information System (Silon) application. Because, the prospective pairs of candidates have received the Silon account.

In the 2020 Simultaneous Pilkada, there will be 59 individual candidate pairs for the regent and deputy regent elections. Then, 9 candidates for the regional elections for the mayor and deputy mayor in the 2020 Pilkada, while in 2020 there will be no individual candidate pairs for the governor election.
