The Ministry's Addition Can Improve Prabowo's Government Performance

JAKARTA The executive director of Survey and Polling Indonesia (SPIN), Igor Dirgantara, assessed that the discourse on increasing the number of ministries from 34 to 40 in the Prabowo Subianto government is suitable to be implemented considering that Indonesia is a large country.

According to him, the addition of the ministerial nomenclature can also improve the performance of the Prabowo government in certain sectors that have not been touched by the previous government.

"Indonesia is a large, large country, its population is also large, it is only natural that the ministry is added to 40 ministries, the important thing is that it is approved," he said, Friday, May 10, 2024.

Igor admitted that the increase in the number of ministries gave rise to the term fat cabinet. However, the word fat is interpreted as negative when referring only to someone. However, for a country, a fat cabinet must be seen in a different perspective because even though Prabowo carries sustainability, improvements are still needed.

"Because the implementation of future government vision and mission must of course also take into account the number of ministries as executors," he added.

PPI executive director Adi Prayitno stated that although it was different from President Joko Widodo who chose to streamline the ministry for the efficiency of the state budget, the discourse on adding nomenclature in the Prabowo era was legal because each of them had their own views.

"It's nice to just win how the cabinet posture is going forward. If for the progress of the nation, the budget must be allocated, except for interests that are not useful, the story is different," he said.

The question is whether the discourse will be carried out through the revision of the State Ministry Law by the current DPR, or issuing a Perppu after Prabowo is inaugurated as president.

"The change in the nomenclature must begin with the revision of the State Ministry Law. It's just a matter of calculations, whether it is done at this time or waiting after being inaugurated," concluded Adi
