Ministry Of Religion: Riots In Pamulang Must Be Processed In Accordance With Applicable Laws

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) Anna Hasbie said that her party had agreed that law violations such as those that occurred in the riots in Pamulang, South Tangerang must be processed in accordance with the provisions of the applicable law.

"We agree that violations of the law will continue to be processed in accordance with statutory provisions," he said in a statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Thursday, May 9.

Regarding the riots that occurred on Sunday (5/5), Anna said that the Ministry of Religion through the Directorate General of Catholic Community Guidance (Catholic Community Guidance) had deployed a team since Monday (6/5) early this morning. She stated that her party continues to coordinate and hold meetings with various elements of society and various stakeholders to seek resolution from the problems that occurred. "Currently, four perpetrators have been arrested by the authorities," he said. Anna invites all Indonesian people to always maintain a conducive atmosphere, by prioritizing tolerance, in order to maintain inter-religious harmony. "For Christians who commemorate the Ascension of Jesus Christ, the Ministry of Religion congratulates on carrying out their worship," he said.

It is known, there was a viral video on social media regarding Pamulang University students who experienced violence and stabbing during worship. In the video circulating, a number of students were afraid of being surrounded by mobs. Some of the students were hit by sharp weapons.
