For The Sake Of EV Transition, Ford Will Stop Focus Production After 2025

JAKARTA - Ford announced that it will not extend the production period from Focus after 2025. This is done so that the company is more focused on the electric vehicle segment, despite the widespread decline in EV demand.

This is further news from companies from the United States (US) in 2022 that they will close the production line of this model in Saarlouis, Germany, in mid-2025.

Ford European General Manager Martin Sander said that his party had no plans to extend its production period from Focus and remain committed in the transition period from ICE to a pure EV.

"In the long term, we are still very confident that electric vehicles will be the future and we will see a significant increase in volume." Sander said as quoted by Autocar, Thursday, May 9.

Sander added that Ford will have a complete range of pure electric cars in both passenger and commercial segments, providing customers with a number of options.

"Basically, our customers have the power to choose what they want," Sander said.

Thus, Focus will be the next model to be shut down after Fiesta in 2023. Ford said that the hatchback production was stopped because it wanted to provide space for EV assembly at the Cologne plant, Germany. It said the facility would be the production site of the Explorer EV.

The last two Ford Fiesta produced will be stored for Ford's historical collection. One will remain in Cologne, while the others will be stored in England, which has always been a big market for this car.
