270 Facial Recognition Gates At British Airport Dead Due To IT Disturbance, Thousands Of Passengers Affected
JAKARTA - Thousands of airplane passengers are trapped in snaking queues at many airports in the UK as a result of hundreds of automatic electronic gates used for face recognition or facial recognition experiencing IT disturbances.
Quoting Metro.co.uk, Wednesday, May 8, this digital gate is not at the location where Immigration officers check passenger passports.
The electronic gate at the airport arrival gate should function to the system so that the bars are open when passengers are detected in the database. However, due to damage to the officers checked manually.
The UK Interior Ministry said in a statement that 270 electronic gates at many airports in the UK were completely shut down on Tuesday, May 7, at around 19:50 local time.
The UK's relevant authorities overseeing the border area said this disturbance was not caused by hacking or malicious cyber activity.
The British Ministry of Home Affairs then apologized for the disturbances that occurred at its regional airport, especially to tourists.
To airlines and relevant stakeholders who helped during the disruption period, the British Ministry of Home Affairs also expressed his appreciation.
The airports in England affected by IT disruption include Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen Airports.
Currently, the electronic gate experiencing the problem has returned to normal functioning.
