1,500 OKU Residents' Houses In South Sumatra Were Submerged By Floods

BATURAJA - 1,500 houses in Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency, South Sumatra were flooded due to high rainfall and overflowing water from the Ogan river.

"Heavy and long rains that occurred last night caused floods in various areas in OKU Regency," said Head of the OKUJanuar Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Efendi as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 8.

Flood-affected areas, namely a number of areas in West Baturaja District covering Tanjung Agung Village, Talang Jawa, and Air Gading.

Then, Tanjung Karang Village, Batu Kuning Village, Laya Village, Karang Endah Village, Batu Putih Village, Pusar Village, Saung Naga Village.

In fact, several areas in East Baturaja District, such as Sekarjaya Village, Baturaja Permai, Baturaja Lama, Kemala Raja, Sukaraya Village, and Air Village also did not escape the floods.

"Luckily in this disaster there were no casualties," he said.

As a result of the natural disaster, more than 1,500 houses were flooded with water levels reaching 1.5-2 meters.

Related to this, the OKU BPBD has deployed personnel to the location of the natural disaster to evacuate residents to a safe place so that there are no casualties.

"Our personnel evacuated hundreds of flood victims using rubber boats and buoys to the highlands," he said.
