JAKARTA - An accident involving a Pandalungan Train (KA) with a car occurred in Patuguran Village, Rejoso District, Pasuruan Regency this morning. Due to this incident, there were dead and injured car drivers.

EVP of Corporate Secretary KAI Raden Agus Dwinanto Budiadji said as a result of this incident, the Pandalungan train experienced delays, and disrupted the Logawa train journey from Jember to Purwokerto.

Furthermore, Agus also said that KAI was very concerned and regretted the accident involving the Pandalungan train with one unit of the car.

"PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) is sorry for and regrets the traffic accident between the Pandalungan Train for Gambir Jember relation at JPL 146 kilometers 70+8/9 Patuguran Village, Rejoso District, Pasuruan Regency," he said in an official statement, Tuesday, May 7.

Agus said the entire Pandalungan train passengers were in a safe condition. Including the train crew. Meanwhile, there were victims who died and were injured by the car driver.

Furthermore, Agus emphasized, the train has its own path and cannot stop suddenly. So road users must prioritize train travel.

All road users are required to prioritize train travel when passing through a level crossing. This is in accordance with Law 23 of 2007 concerning railways Article 124 and Law 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation article 114," he said.

In Law Number 23 of 2007 concerning Railways, Article 124 states that, In a section between the railway and road lines, road users must prioritize train travel.

Then in Law 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation, Article 114 states that, At a level crossing between the railway and road lines, vehicle drivers are required: stop when the signal has sounded, the railroad gate has begun to be closed and or there are other signs, prioritize trains, and give the main rights to vehicles that first cross the rail.

"In addition, KAI also always emphasizes that road owners according to their class (Central Government and Regional Government) evaluate safety for the existence of level crossings in their area," he explained.

The road owners are those who have to manage level crossings such as completing safety equipment or closing the level crossing which is considered dangerous for safety.

In accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation Number 94 of 2018, the authority for the handling and management of a level crossing between the railway and the road is carried out by the owner of the road which includes a level crossing located on national roads, on provincial roads, and a level crossing located on district/city and village roads.

KAI hopes for the active role of all parties to be able to improve safety at level crossings for the sake of mutual safety

"KAI urges the public to be careful when crossing a highway crossing by train. Make sure the routes to be traversed are safe, look right and left, and obey the existing signs," concluded Agus.
