President Jokowi Inaugurates Telecommunication Device Testing Center In Depok

JAKARTA - President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) Joko Widodo inaugurated the Indonesia Digital Test House (IDTH) / Center for Testing of Telecommunications Devices on Tuesday, May 7 at Tapos, Depok.

The inauguration of IDTH is an effort by the government to improve the capabilities of the local technology industry in Indonesia. Given the number of technological devices and communication tools used by the community, imported goods are still dominated.

"Imports are also still dominating in the departure test application, the data I got from the RRT, there are 3,046 devices, while those from Indonesia are only 632 devices, very far away," Jokowi said in his remarks.

In addition, Jokowi also emphasized that he did not want Indonesia to become a market only for global technology companies, but Jokowi wanted Indonesia to also be a key player in the global technology supply chain.

"And of course, there must be courage. We have made breakthroughs. I am grateful that now we have an Indonesia Digital Test House, an international standard testing center," he said.

Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi also stated that the IDTH, which is located in Depok, has become the most complete and largest digital device testing research center in Southeast Asia, as well as an international standard.

With the most complete test kits, IDTH will serve to test digital device features such as radio frequency telecommunication features, electromagnetic compliance, electronic safety, and specific absorption rate (SAR).

"This testing facility aims to ensure the safety and security of telecommunications device users throughout Indonesia, standardize export products and import devices, and ensure interoperability and protection of inter-device interference," explained Budi.

Budi also hopes for direction from the President, as well as collaboration with various parties including related Ministries/Institutions, researchers, practitioners, and experts to produce the latest technological innovations in the future.
