The Ministry Of Industry Targets The Non-Oil And Gas Processing Industry To Contribute 20 Percent To GDP In The Second Quarter Of 2024

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) targets the contribution of the non-oil and gas processing industry to GDP to reach around 20 percent by the second quarter of 2024.

"We always try so that the contribution of GDP to the non-oil and gas processing industry can reach around 20 percent and then its growth can exceed national economic growth," said Ministry of Industry spokesman Febri Hendri Antoni Arif when answering VOI questions at the Ministry of Industry office, Jakarta, quoted Tuesday, May 7.

Febri said that his party would take a number of steps to achieve this target.

Bearing in mind, based on records from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the processing industry became one of the largest contributors to GDP in the first quarter of 2024.

Its contribution reached 19.28 percent of Indonesia's economic growth.

First, the Ministry of Industry will boost the government's budget. This is because the industrial confidence index (IKI) and the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) have decreased.

He considered that this was due to seasonal factors due to the long Eid holiday in 2024.

"In terms of domestic spending, we will increase the level of domestic components (TKDN). Second, we encourage export-oriented industries to increase their production," he said.

Then, said Febri, his party is also trying to make the import prohibition policy (laltas) through Permendag Number 3 of 2024 concerning Amendments to Permendag Number 36 of 2023 concerning Import Policy and Regulation which was issued some time ago can control the entry of imported goods into the country.

"We hope that controlling imported goods through lartas can affect the domestic industry, can increase utilization, attract domestic investment and can also recruit workers," he added.
