Minister Of Transportation Budi Karya Calls The Level Of Public Satisfaction During The 2024 Eid Homecoming Achieves 89 Percent

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said the level of public satisfaction with the implementation of the Eid Al-Fitr 1445 H homecoming last April reached 89 percent, while the level of satisfaction with the implementation of free homecoming activities was 91 percent.

He explained that the satisfaction figure was obtained based on a survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation in collaboration with the Central Statistics Agency, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, one of the print media in Indonesia, and one of the telecommunications companies in the country.

"The level of satisfaction (community) from what has been done during this homecoming, Alhamdulillah, gave good results," Budi said after attending a limited meeting related to the evaluation of the 2024 Eid homecoming and return flow at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Monday 6 May.

In safety elements, the government recorded a decrease in accident cases that caused the death toll by 8 percent and the number of minor injuries decreased by 10 percent, although the number of seriously injured victims increased by 33 percent compared to last year's homecoming.

In order to minimize accidents, the government will continue to urge people not to go home using motorbikes. The government will also intensify free homecoming as a solution to reduce the number of motorcyclists.

"The free homecoming currently facilitates 133 thousand (homecomers). When compared to the total number of 193 million travelers, it's still small. Well, this should be for all government agencies to go home for free, not only to Java, but also Sumatra," said the Minister of Transportation.

Still referring to the survey, the government noted that the public is most happy to go home by train.

However, because the number is still limited, the Minister of Transportation submitted a proposal that had been approved by President Joko Widodo so that PT KAI would increase the number of trains, so that train travel would increase.

The government also plans to increase the number of ports to avoid the accumulation of passengers, such as what happened at Merak Port, Banten, last Eid homecoming season.

"The number of ports must be added, in several places, both in Ketapang with a anchor or in Merak, we also have several points added, so that people are not piled up in Merak," said Budi.

"In addition, what is also important is the size (capacity) of the ship. The ship operated must be larger and faster, so that the transport and speed provide a good result," he added.

Based on a survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation and several related agencies, it was recorded that 242 million Indonesians traveled more than two hours - which can be indicated as a homecoming trip - during the 2024 Eid holiday.
