Israel Attacks Rafah In Reply To Hamas Rockets That Killed 3 Soldiers

JAKARTA - Israel carried out a retaliatory attack on Rafah, southern Gaza after Hamas claimed to have carried out an attack on a rocket that killed 3 Israeli soldiers.

The Israeli military said 10 projectiles were launched from Rafah in southern Gaza to the now-closed crossing area for aid trucks heading to the coastal area.

Hamas said they fired rockets at an Israeli military base at the intersection, but did not confirm where they fired them.

Reported by Reuters on Monday, May 6, Hamas media quoted sources close to the group as saying commercial crossings were not targeted.

Shortly after the Hamas attack, Israeli airstrikes hit homes in Rafah that killed three people and injured several others, Palestinian medics said.

The Israeli military confirmed the retaliatory attack, saying it hit the launcher where Hamas projectiles were fired, as well as nearby military structures.

Hamas' launch near the Rafah Crossing is a clear example of systematic exploitation by terrorist organizations against facilities and humanitarian space, and they continue to use Gaza's civilian population as human shields, he said.
