Affected By Mount Ruang Eruption Ash, Manado Samrat Airport Extends Closing Until Tomorrow
SULUT - The closure of Manado's Sam Ratulangi Airport (Samrat) was extended until Saturday, May 4 at 18.00 WITA due to the impact of volcanic ash from Mount Ruang, Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi (Sulut).
"Tonight, we extended the closing of Notam at Samrat Airport because the spread of Mount Ruang volcanic ash is still around Samrat Airport," said Samrat Yanti Airport Public Relations Officer Pramono, in Manado, North Sulawesi, Friday, May 3, as reported by Antara.
Yanti said the airport's temporary closure from April 30 to date has affected 104 aircraft and 11,345 passengers.
"These thousands of passengers must reschedule their flights or take returns to the airline," said Yanti.

He said his party had to extend the closure of Samrat Airport, because he saw the condition of the spread of volcanic ash which was very dangerous and could cause the aircraft engine to shut down.
He said this was done in accordance with the Notam (tention to airmen) A1170/24 NOTAMR A1160/24, then again extended the closure of Samrat Airport until tomorrow afternoon.
